Ruth and Richard Lenz were both well-established musicians before coming together, not only as a professional guitar duo but also as husband and wife.
Truly devoted to this musical marriage, Duo Lenz’s performance schedule has been extensive. They have been invited to play for many prestigious events and festivals. Together they have made television appearances and received extensive radio airplay.
Duo Lenz’s repertoire is very broad, and they have been praised for their exciting, specially tailored programs. Original compositions are a central feature of their repertoire, and many distinguished composers have been inspired by the duo’s close ensemble playing to write new works for them. This has resulted in Duo Lenz playing and recording many premiere performances. Their programs also include compositions written by Richard Lenz himself.
Duo Lenz play Australian made and designed guitars, using the innovative lattice bracing style built by Perth luthier, Paul Sheridan. Other frequently featured guitars include replicas of two 19th Century French guitars (René Lacôte, Paris 1839), built by Perth luthier, Simon Rovis-Hermann
Their passion for the guitar and its ever-expanding music literature has resulted in Duo Lenz establishing themselves as one of Australia’s leading classical guitar duos, admired unanimously by the press and audiences alike.

EDUCATION | Alongside their work as performing musicians, Ruth and Richard are well-qualified and experienced educators. Both Ruth and Richard teach students of all levels and ages, preparing them for exams and eisteddfods. They are experienced in teaching the syllabus for AMEB, Trinity Guildhall, ABRSM and St Cecilia exams and have taught several prize-winning students.
They are always seeking to expand the student repertoire by composing and arranging new works for all playing levels.
Ruth and Richard are sought after as adjudicators for various schools and competitions and have worked as examiners for the Australian Music Examinations Board, the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (DoE, WA), the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (Edith Cowan University) and the UWA Conservatorium of Music.
